LAND FORMS
The Great Rift Valley runs through northern Syria, in southwest Asia, to central Mozambique in East Africa. This valley is bordered by a series of mountains and active volcanoes. The Great Rift Valley is 4,215 feet and 3,000 mi long. In the western valley the highest mountains in Africa borders it, also contains lakes which are some of the deepest lakes in the world (up to 1,470 meters deep). In the eastern the lakes are shallow. It holds high evaporation so when the water leaves it lots of salt if left behind.
The Great Rift Valley is located mostly in Kenya. This Rift is caused by two continental plate drifting apart. The eastern part is pulling into the Indian Ocean. Far in the future when the eastern part pulls away it will contain a sea. The Great Rift Valley has a rich sources of fossils that allows studies of human evolution has speculated. Actually the human “Lucy” was found in the Rift Valley. Scientist suggested that the Rifts trough may have been an important route for humans.
Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and the highest free standing mountain in the world. Its 20,000 feet tall and holds 3 volcanic cones in it. Mawenzi, Shira, Kibo are all the volcanic cones. Ice may be completely gone within the next 20 years. Almost every kind of ecological system is found on the mountain. Cultured land, rainforest, heath, moorland, Alpine desert, and an arctic summit Approximately 25,000 people attempt to summit Mt. Kilimanjaro. Only about 2\3 are successful in climbing this mountain. The oldest person to climb it was 87 years old.
While global climate change is certainly playing a role in these impact. Nair and Fair man found that deforestation of the lowlands around the mountain is exacerbating that effect. Effect as climate change causes clouds to move the slope of the mountains increasing temperature and decrease in rainfall. Deforestation is equivalent to global climate change in Africa.

WATERWAYS
The Congo River also called the Zaire River is the second longest in Africa and ninth longest in the world. It is also the deepest river in the world being 750 meter (230 meters). Lots of waterfalls, dangerous rapids, and numerous island makes it hard to travel in certain areas. Other river and streams that lead into provide over nine thousand miles long. There are more than 4,000 islands in this river. Approximately 700 fishes live in the Congo river. This river also crosses equator twice.
The Congo River is the main transportation system in central africa. A tremendous amount of goods are transported on the river everyday. This river is huge in resources and is also very powerful. The Congo River is so powerful that it could supply all of the sub Saharan Africa's electricity need and more.
In the 13th century, the early Portuguese traders followed a West African river’s outline to the interior and called it the ‘Volta’, which means ‘to meander’. As if to live up to its name, River Volta forms very beautiful sceneries of beautiful, long, snake-like loops of meanders. The Volta River is located in Ghana. The volta river is 470 km long and it drains into the Gulf Of Guinea and Atlantic Ocean. There are three main tributaries the Black Volta, White Volta and the Red Volta.
The Volta River has both bad and good resources. One is enhanced fishing, the Volta has many fish for food and having fun. Transport is also great in this river. Another effect is massive output of hydroelectric power. Plus it supports a large aluminum industry. Something you might have known is that it's good for farming. The Volta improves opportunities for irrigated farming. Attendant multiplier economic effects. Speed disease like phenomena which is common by the river.

Resources
Gold was first found in California in 1848. The largest nugget found in America was 195 pounds. Gold is used for a lot of things and will always be worth something in the world. You can do a lot with gold like wear it( rings, chains, and ect.) Gold is even in windows. Sell it for money depending on how much gold you have like an ounce is $1,200 and a ton is $153,600,000. Fun fact is 1 ounce of liquid gold can be drawn into a wire 60 miles long. South Africa has more gold than ⅓ of the world.
Like I said above gold will always be worth something and Africa has a lot of gold so it increases the jobs a lot in the South. In South Africa almost 500,000 people work in gold mines. The bad thing is in the next 10 years most gold mines will be shut down. This will decrease jobs for a lot of people that would have worked there.
CHOCOLATE is the best thing in this project. I like chocolate a lot I will not eat any cake if it's not chocolate. Any way chocolate actually comes from a fruit tree. 400 cocoa beans make 1 pound. A cocoa tree holds about 2,500 beans. Most of the cocoa beans come from West Africa about 70% is produced. Chocolate is made out of cocoa beans and “magic stuff”.
This is a big job for the Western Africa area. There are 1.5 million cocoa farms in Africa. A average cocoa farm in South Africa is 7 to 10 acres. The problem is child labor. There are kids ages 12-16 working long hours but not even making $2 a day. Kids are forced to work to survive in this world. I think they should get paid more than 2 dollars or at most 2 dollars. Kind of crazy to think about.
